Understanding the Sermon

Understanding the Sermon

In this introductory sermon to the series, “Kingdom Ethics – The Sermon on the Mount,” we’ll explore the setting, the audience, and the message of the Sermon so that we might have a better understanding of it. When Jesus went up on the mountain, He called His disciples to Him and began to teach them about what life in the Kingdom of God – which He was inaugurating – was to look like. There would be a great contrast between what His disciples knew of life in this world and life in His Kingdom. The standards of God’s Kingdom are high, to be sure, so high that they are unobtainable…apart from being born again. We invite you to join us as we set the stage for this study of Jesus’ longest recorded sermon. God has called us to live the Kingdom life, and what God has called us to do, He empowers us to do!
