Being Grateful in All Things, Not for All Things

There are many platitudes that are spoken with good intentions and are presented as though they come from the Bible: "God helps those who help themselves" and "Money is the root of all evil" come readily to mind. Sometimes those statements are just false (as in the first example) and sometimes they are not exactly right (as in the second; the Bible actually says in 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils..."). Perhaps you've heard, "You should be thankful for everything." What does the Bible say?
