Children of Freedom

Are we children of slavery or children of promise? In this message, we examine Paul's contrast between Hagar and Sarah, Ishmael and Isaac, and the two fundamentally different ways of seeking acceptance before God: through human effort and obedience to the Law, or through faith in God's gracious promise. We discover the glorious truth of the Gospel: Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law we could never obey, bore the curse our sins deserved upon the cross, and rose victorious from the grave so that sinners might be justified by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Finally, we are called to reject the bondage of legalism and live as children of promise, recognizing that true Christian freedom is not the freedom to sin, but the freedom to obey and serve God through the power of the Holy Spirit, resting entirely in the finished work of Christ.
